The Summer Studio is a boutique professional development experience for your most promising designers on the cusp of leadership .
Our carefully crafted offering gives a dose of rocket fuel to folks already on the rise.
You know who they are.
We believe in learning through active participation, creating a training environment within the context of a live design project.
From September to May, our Principal Designers teach design in the best collegiate design programs in the country. But in the summer they bring their rich backgrounds in professional practice and their legit design chops to The Summer Studio. With a complex project in hand (this summer we’ll work with KUT/KUTX public media) they get to work together to flex these muscles.
The Summer Studio will take place over three weeks May 6th-24th 2024.
Week 1 (remote, part-time): Project launch via zoom and asynchronous assignments
Week 2 (in-person full-time): Immersion in a week-long design sprint in Austin TX.
Week 3 (remote part-time): Integrating learning and practices within your organization
Participants from your organization bring their own skills to the table, but layered over the project are explicit learning moments (we are teachers afterall) which reveal nuance, skill and decision-making frameworks associated with leading great creative work.

Learning Outcomes
There are many mindsets and behaviors associated with becoming a great leader. In the Summer of 2024, we will focus on techniques and frameworks for:
Leading Teams
Galvanizing groups around a goal: setting agendas, running meetings, critiquing work-in-progress.
Dynamics of Collaboration
Avoiding (or remedying) common pitfalls within collaborative group dynamics
Design Team Experiences
Using events and rituals to create psychological safety on a team.
In addition to the shared portfolio piece created for our client, participants will produce a personalized point-of-view piece about their own learning, their leadership goals, and their reflection about how to embody this new role. You get them back with a turbo charge.
